Amazon’s checkout function encountered technical difficulties on Friday, preventing customers from completing their purchases. During the outage, users reported seeing error messages accompanied by images of dogs.
The issue occurred despite Amazon’s reliance on its own data center infrastructure. Amazon Web Services, the company’s cloud computing division, reported no technical problems at the time. Downtime at Amazon Web Services can impact numerous companies due to its significant role as a public cloud provider.
An Amazon spokesperson has yet to respond to requests for comment.
The glitch happened amid Amazon’s Labor Day sale, which featured promotions on various products. The technical issue prevented customers from taking advantage of these discounts, leading to frustration expressed on social media platforms.
The Amazon Help account on the social media network X advised customers to contact the company directly for assistance.
Amazon has previously warned investors that technical problems could negatively affect sales and damage the company’s reputation. Despite this incident, Amazon reported strong sales, totaling nearly $148 billion in the second quarter.
