Kolkata Knight Riders bowler Harshit Rana has found himself in hot water after breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during his team’s recent match against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on March 23. As a consequence, Rana has been slapped with a fine totaling 60 percent of his match fees.
The breaches in question fall under Level 1 offences, as stipulated under Article 2.5 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct. For the two separate infractions, Rana has been fined 10 percent and 50 percent of his match fees, respectively. It’s worth noting that Rana admitted to both offences and accepted the sanction imposed by the Match Referee.
The IPL Code of Conduct is designed to ensure fair play and sportsmanship among players participating in the tournament. Level 1 breaches encompass a range of offenses, from dissent or abusive language to excessive appealing or misconduct on the field. In this instance, the specifics of Rana’s breaches have not been disclosed.
Importantly, for Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the decision of the Match Referee is considered final and binding. This means that Rana has no avenue for appeal against the sanctions imposed on him.
While Rana’s actions have landed him in trouble, it serves as a reminder to all players participating in the IPL to adhere to the highest standards of conduct and professionalism. With the tournament known for its intense competition and fervent fan following, maintaining discipline on and off the field is paramount.
