Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], July 4 (ANI): Maulana Yasoob Abbas, General Secretary of the All India Shia Personal Law Board said on Thursday that the board is against the Uniform Civil Code as it is a matter of “Belief” and no one should interfere in anyone’s personal laws.

The board also held an important national executive meeting on Wednesday to discuss issues like the UCC and government management in the month of Muharram.

Maulana Yasoob Abbas told ANI, “Issues like UCC were discussed in the meeting as it’s a matter that concerns the whole Muslim community and hence the board is all against it. This is not a matter of acceptance or refusal, it’s a matter of belief and we, the Muslim community have our laws in which no one should interfere.”

“We are with the law of this nation and we stand still with it but in our laws, UCC shouldn’t be implemented as we have the rituals of marriage, divorce, and inheritance, all according to Muslim personal laws,” he added.

The General Secretary of the board also said that they have also decided to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi to raise concern over UCC that it shouldn’t be allowed or implemented in the nation.

“The debate over UCC has been persistent over many years and both the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) and All India Shia Personal Law Board have refused it from time to time,” Maulana Abbas said.

On June 30, the All India Shia Personal Law Board wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and urged him to ensure better arrangements for the upcoming Muharram procession.

The board urged the Prime Minister to ensure security arrangements on the routes determined by the state governments so that untruly elements cannot disturb the law and order.

“Keeping in mind the cleanliness of the routes of processions taken out during Muharram and the intense heat, arrangements for sprinkling water or water tanks should be made at various places on the roads,” the letter read.

“On the occasion of Muharram, tall processions of Tazias are taken out on traditional routes throughout India, in which many times people get electrocuted due to electric wires. Hence, proper arrangements should be made on the routes of the Tazias by directing the electricity department,” the Shia Board further added. (ANI)
