New Delhi [India], January 24
Al-Nassr, the Saudi club featuring star forward Cristiano Ronaldo, announced the cancellation of their two-game tour in China after Ronaldo suffered an injury. This development has raised concerns about his availability for the much-anticipated match against Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami. The tour initially included matches against Shanghai Shenhua on January 24 and Zhejiang on January 28, both of which are now postponed.
Al-Nassr’s Statement and Rescheduling Plans
In an official statement, Al-Nassr expressed their commitment to completing their training camp in Shenzhen and their gratitude towards the city’s warm reception. They also mentioned plans to reschedule the matches: “Furthermore, we have agreed with the organizer to schedule a new match as soon as possible,” the statement read, highlighting the club’s intention to fulfill their commitments despite the unforeseen setback.
Ronaldo Expresses Regret Over Injury
Cristiano Ronaldo personally addressed the situation, expressing his disappointment and apologizing to fans: “I have played for 22 years and I am a player that doesn’t have too many injuries. So I’m really sad because Al-Nassr and myself have come to China to enjoy the tour,” Ronaldo stated. He acknowledged his fitness issue but remained optimistic about returning to the field, “We have not cancelled the game, we want to push for the game and be back here… Unfortunately, I have some problem, but this is part of football and my life.”
Upcoming Friendly Tournament in Riyadh
Following the cancellation of the China tour, Al-Nassr’s next engagement is a friendly tournament in Riyadh, scheduled for February 1, where they are set to face Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami. This event is eagerly anticipated, as it will also feature Neymar’s Al-Hilal, the current leaders of the Saudi Pro League. The tournament promises to be a showcase of international football talent, notwithstanding Ronaldo’s recent injury.
