Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced on Friday that one of the two Rajya Sabha seats recently vacated by BJP leaders Udayanraje Bhosale and Piyush Goyal will be allocated to the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) led by Ajit Pawar. The vacancies arose after Bhosale and Goyal won their respective Lok Sabha seats from Satara and Mumbai North.
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis revealed the decision during a press conference in Satara, stating that while one of the vacant Rajya Sabha seats will remain with the BJP, the other will be offered to the Ajit Pawar faction of the NCP. This move follows an earlier promise made by the BJP. The final decision on the allocation will be made by the BJP parliamentary board.
In addition to discussing the Rajya Sabha seat distribution, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis criticized the Congress party’s stance on the recently introduced Wakf (Amendment) Bill. The bill, which was presented in the Lok Sabha on Thursday and subsequently referred to a joint parliamentary panel, aims to bring greater transparency to the management of Wakf properties. However, opposition parties, led by Congress, have condemned the bill, claiming it targets Muslims and undermines constitutional values.
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis accused the Congress of opposing the bill to protect their own interests in Wakf land, alleging that Congress members have previously been implicated in scams involving Wakf properties. He defended the bill as a measure to enhance transparency and address these issues.
