Ahmedabad, March 27, 2026 | Air India has announced that it will shift all its domestic flight operations at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2, effective March 29, 2026. The move is aimed at enhancing passenger convenience and streamlining airport operations.
According to the airline, the transition will involve its entire domestic schedule of 210 weekly flights operating to and from Ahmedabad. With this change, all Air India flights—both domestic and international—will operate exclusively from Terminal 2, as international services are already based there.
Consolidation of Operations
The relocation is part of Air India’s broader effort to improve operational efficiency and provide a seamless travel experience for passengers. By consolidating both domestic and international services under one terminal, the airline aims to simplify airport navigation and reduce confusion among travellers.
Passengers flying with Air India from Ahmedabad will now depart and arrive solely at Terminal 2, eliminating the need to switch between terminals for connecting flights or different routes.
Enhanced Passenger Facilities at Terminal 2
Terminal 2 at the Ahmedabad airport is equipped with upgraded infrastructure and modern facilities designed to improve passenger experience. Key features include:
52 check-in counters
Self-baggage drop kiosks
DigiYatra-enabled kiosks for faster processing
17 departure immigration counters
22 arrival immigration counters
8 e-gates for immigration at departures and arrivals
These facilities are expected to reduce wait times, improve efficiency, and offer a more comfortable travel experience for passengers.
Passenger Advisory and Notifications
Air India has begun proactively informing passengers about the terminal change through SMS, email, and other direct communication channels. Travellers scheduled to fly to or from Ahmedabad have been advised to verify their terminal details in advance to avoid any last-minute inconvenience.
The airline emphasised the importance of checking updated flight and terminal information before heading to the airport, particularly during the initial transition phase.
Focus on Customer Experience
The shift reflects Air India’s continued focus on upgrading its services and infrastructure following its acquisition by the Tata Group. By leveraging the improved facilities at Terminal 2, the airline aims to offer a smoother and more efficient journey for passengers.
Operational Impact
With the implementation of this change from March 29, Ahmedabad will see all Air India operations centralised at a single terminal. This is expected to enhance coordination, reduce operational complexities, and improve overall service delivery.
As the transition takes effect, passengers are encouraged to stay updated through official communication channels and plan their travel accordingly to ensure a hassle-free experience.
