In a bid to secure more slots for the Paris Olympics, the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) has unveiled India’s 14-member squad for the upcoming World Race Walking Team Championships in Antalya, Turkey. Led by experienced racewalkers Ram Baboo, Akshdeep Singh, and Priyanka Goswami, the team is gearing up to compete in the prestigious event scheduled for April 21.

The AFI has carefully selected a strong lineup, including Suraj Panwar, Vikash Singh, Serving S, Arshpreet Singh for the men’s 20 km racewalking team, and Manju Rani, Payal, Pooja Kumawat, Mokavi M, Ramandeep Kaur for the women’s team. Additionally, two mixed relay teams comprising Priyanka Goswami-Akshdeep Singh and Munita P-Paramjeet Singh have been confirmed to participate in the qualifying event for the Paris Olympics.

The mixed relay event holds significant importance as it serves as a Paris Olympic qualifying event, with the top 22 racers securing their tickets to the prestigious games. India, which has already secured four quotas for the Paris Olympics, aims to bolster its presence in racewalking by clinching one more quota in the mixed relay event.

The World Race Walking Team Championships will feature five events, including senior men’s and women’s races over 20 km, and junior category events over 10 km for both genders. Notably, the 35 km racewalking event has been replaced by a new Marathon Race Walking Mixed Relay, adding an exciting dimension to the competition.

With the Paris Olympics on the horizon, India’s racewalking contingent is determined to put forth their best performance and secure additional spots for the country in this prestigious sporting event.
