India lost the ODI World Cup which was very disheartening let’s have a look at the reasons for the failure of the Indian Team.
Middle overs
Team India batted very slowly in the middle overs. Virat Kohli was hitting singles, but KL Rahul’s bat appeared stuck. After Rohit Sharma got out, there was a drought of boundaries in the Indian innings. India was able to hit only four fours between 11 to 50 overs. Hitting a six was like a dream. The bat of Suryakumar Yadav also remained calm. Rahul scored 66 runs in 107 balls. Surya was able to score only 18 runs in 28 balls.
Pitch
There was a lot of debate about the pitch but this pitch was not new for the players . The match between India and Pakistan was also played on this. Rohit Sharma’s team won that match brilliantly. However, India decided to use a slow pitch against Australia, which backfired. Adam Zampa, Travis Head, and Glenn Maxwell trapped the batters well. In the death overs, Jos Hazlewood-Cummins did not let Team India increase the run rate by hitting slower balls and kept taking wickets continuously.
Dew
There was already a prediction of dew in Ahmedabad. And Indian bowlers faced a lot of problems due to this. The ball was not being gripped and the outfield became fast. The ball was crawling to the boundary during the Indian innings, the same ball was rapidly reaching the boundary during the Kangaroo innings. Rohit gave bowling to Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja early, so that the match could be impacted by turning the ball. But this could not happen. Australia’s bowlers got reverse swing. At the same time, Indian pacers could not take advantage of this.
India’s struggle to establish significant partnerships
Other than one notable partnership over fifty runs between Virat Kohli and KL Rahul, there were no major teaming efforts, which restricted their overall score.
Australia’s batting approach
Australia adopted an assertive batting approach from the beginning, which proved effective. Their top-order batsmen, especially Travis Head, employed an aggressive stance, making a difficult run chase seem more manageable.
