A tragic shooting incident unfolded at a park in Round Rock, Texas, during an annual Juneteenth celebration, leaving two dead and fourteen others wounded. The shooting occurred late Saturday night (local time) at Old Settlers Park, prompting a widespread manhunt for the perpetrator.
According to Round Rock Police, the gunfire erupted following an altercation between two groups at the event, which was commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. Police Chief Allen Banks disclosed to reporters that the two fatalities were bystanders not involved in the initial confrontation.
“As of now, 14 victims have been transported to local hospitals with gunshot wounds, and two individuals lost their lives at the scene,” stated Round Rock Police.
Authorities described the suspect as a black male with a slender build, approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall, sporting short dreadlocks, and wearing a white hoodie during the incident. A reward of $5,000 has been announced by the police for any information leading to the apprehension of the gunman.
Juneteenth, observed annually in June across the United States, commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans.
The incident has sparked widespread concern and grief within the community, with officials urging anyone with information regarding the shooting or the suspect to come forward promptly. Security measures in the area have been heightened as the search for the perpetrator continues.
