In a historic attempt to set a Guinness World Record, 15,000 sanitation workers carried out a synchronised cleanliness drive across four zones in Prayagraj on Monday as part of the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela. This ambitious effort aimed to surpass the previous record set in the 2019 Kumbh, where 10,000 workers had participated in a similar initiative.
The massive drive was witnessed by Prayagraj Mayor Ganesh Kesarwani, Mahakumbh’s Special Executive Officer Akanksha Rana, and a supervisory team from the Guinness Book of World Records. The chief supervisor and judge from the Guinness team, Rishi Nath, had traveled from London with his team to oversee the event and ensure the record attempt met the required standards. Each sanitation worker involved in the drive was counted through a digital scanning process using wristband codes, ensuring accuracy and verification of participation.
The final validation report of the record attempt will be released after three days, following a thorough review of the event’s documentation and compliance with Guinness World Records guidelines. Officials have expressed optimism that this attempt will officially be recognized, further cementing the Maha Kumbh’s reputation not only as the world’s largest religious gathering but also as a model for cleanliness and sanitation management on a massive scale.
Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Ganesh Kesarwani stated that the attempt at a world record had sent a strong global message about the importance of cleanliness from the sacred land of Prayagraj. He emphasized that maintaining hygiene and sanitation at an event of such magnitude required unwavering commitment and coordination, and this record attempt showcased the dedication of thousands of sanitation workers who tirelessly worked to uphold these standards.
Uttar Pradesh Urban Development and Energy Minister AK Sharma lauded the efforts of the sanitation workers, calling them the true heroes behind the success of the Maha Kumbh. He highlighted how the Maha Kumbh had evolved into the world’s largest religious, spiritual, and cultural event, drawing millions of devotees, and emphasized that the efficiency of its sanitation management played a crucial role in ensuring a smooth and hygienic experience for pilgrims.
He further acknowledged the relentless efforts of the workers, who had been working day and night to keep the Kumbh Mela area clean, ensuring that millions of visitors could perform their rituals in a well-maintained environment. The commitment of these workers has been a crucial factor in the administration’s ability to manage the overwhelming influx of pilgrims while maintaining hygiene standards at an event of this scale.
With the final confirmation of the world record attempt pending, authorities remain confident that the synchronized cleanliness drive will be recognized as a landmark achievement. The initiative not only underscores the significance of maintaining hygiene at religious gatherings but also serves as an inspiration for large-scale event management worldwide. The Maha Kumbh Mela, held once every 12 years, has yet again set a global benchmark, reinforcing its status as an unparalleled spiritual and cultural phenomenon.
