Gautam Buddh Nagar, April 27, 2026
The District Disaster Management Authority has issued a public advisory outlining essential precautions to protect residents from heatwave conditions. With temperatures rising, authorities have urged people to follow safety guidelines to prevent heat-related illnesses.

According to officials, exposure to extreme heat and hot winds can lead to serious health issues such as heatstroke, dehydration, and fatigue. The advisory highlights practical steps that individuals can adopt in daily life to stay safe.

Key Guidelines: What to Do

Residents are advised to stay alert to heatwave warnings through media and official channels. Drinking plenty of water throughout the day is strongly recommended, even if one does not feel thirsty, to avoid dehydration.

Wearing light-colored, loose-fitting cotton clothes can help the body stay cool. While stepping outside, people should use protective items such as sunglasses, umbrellas, caps, and appropriate footwear to minimize direct exposure to sunlight.

Those working outdoors should cover their head, face, hands, and feet with a damp cloth and take frequent breaks in shaded areas. In case someone shows signs of heat-related illness, they should be moved to a cool place, cooled with a wet cloth or bath, and provided immediate medical attention.

Carrying drinking water while traveling is essential. The use of oral rehydration solutions (ORS) and traditional drinks like lassi, lemon water, buttermilk, and rice water is encouraged to maintain hydration levels.

Residents are also advised to recognize symptoms of heatstroke, heat rash, and heat cramps, such as dizziness, weakness, headache, nausea, sweating, and unconsciousness. Immediate medical consultation is necessary if such symptoms appear.

To keep indoor environments cool, people should use curtains, keep doors and windows closed during peak heat hours, and open them during evenings and nights. The use of fans, damp cloths, and frequent bathing can also help regulate body temperature.

At workplaces, employers are advised to ensure the availability of drinking water and protect workers from direct sunlight. Heavy physical work should be scheduled during cooler parts of the day, and rest intervals should be increased. Special care should be taken for pregnant women and individuals with health conditions.

Precautions: What Not to Do

The advisory strictly warns against leaving children or animals unattended in parked vehicles, as temperatures inside can rise dangerously within minutes.

People are advised to avoid going out between 12 noon and 3 pm when the sun is at its peak. Staying on lower floors of buildings can help reduce heat exposure.

Wearing dark, heavy, or tight clothing should be avoided as it traps heat. Engaging in strenuous physical activity during high temperatures is also discouraged.

Additionally, the consumption of high-protein, stale, or contaminated food and beverages should be avoided, as these can increase the risk of health complications during extreme heat.

Public Appeal

Authorities have urged citizens across Gautam Buddh Nagar to strictly follow the advisory and also spread awareness among family members and neighbors. Preventive measures, timely action, and awareness can significantly reduce the risk of heat-related illnesses during the ongoing summer season.

The administration emphasized that community cooperation is essential to ensure public safety during heatwave conditions.
